Personality disorders and its types
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), there are 10 specific types of personality disorders recognized in psychology:
1.Paranoid personality disorder: characterized by mistrust and suspicion of others
2.Schizoid personality disorder: characterized by a lack of interest in social relationships and a lack of emotional expression.
3.Schizotypal personality disorder: characterized by odd or eccentric thinking and behavior, and difficulty forming close relationships.
4.Antisocial personality disorder: characterized by a disregard for the rights of others and a tendency to engage in criminal behavior.
5.Borderline personality disorder: characterized by instability in mood, self-image, and behavior, and difficulty with relationships.
6.Histrionic personality disorder: characterized by attention-seeking behavior, dramatic expression of emotion, and a need for approval.
7.Narcissistic personality disorder: characterized by a sense of grandiosity and a need for admiration.
8.Avoidant personality disorder: characterized by a fear of rejection and a tendency to avoid social interactions.
9.Dependent personality disorder: characterized by a need to be cared for by others and a fear of being alone.
10.Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder: characterized by a preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control.
Personality disorders are complex and can manifest in many different ways. The above descriptions are meant to provide a general overview of each type of personality disorder.
